Call for Proposals

Spring 2024 Meeting

Deadline for Submissions: February 19, 2024

Local Arrangements Chair: Samantha Barnsfather

The AMS S-C Chapter is pleased to announce its Spring 2024 meeting (April 5-6, 2024) at the Bellarmine University in Louisville, KY. The conference will be fully hybrid. AMS S-C invites submissions for papers, posters, panel discussions, and performances from all areas of music research. We especially welcome submissions concerning “Music and Social Justice.” Any AMS member is welcome to propose an in-person presentation. In order to reserve time and space on the program for AMS-SC chapter members, only scholars based in the South-Central Chapter region may propose a virtual presentation.

Proposals should be sent to the Program Committee Chair Peter Lamothe (peter.lamothe-at-belmont.edu) by February 19 (11:59 pm EDT). Receipt of your submission will be acknowledged via an email reply.

For a proposal submitted by a student, please have an advisor or other faculty member send a separate email message to the Program Committee Chair to verify student status. Students from the AMS-SC whose abstracts are selected by the program committee will be eligible to compete in the Rey M. Longyear Student Paper Competition.

Papers will be limited to twenty minutes with an additional ten minutes allotted for questions and discussion. Proposals should include an abstract of no more than 350 words and clearly indicate the scope of research, the research methods employed, and the presenter’s conclusions. Proposals should consist of a Microsoft Word or PDF file that includes no personally identifying information but only the presentation’s title, abstract, and format (paper, panel, poster, lecture recital, etc.). Please attach the proposal to an email that gives the presenter's full contact information, presentation title, any A/V requirements, and a short bio (100 words or less). Panel proposals should include an abstract describing the scope of the panel in addition to individual abstracts for each of the panel’s components. Please send all information requested (the last name of the author being the file name) to the Program Committee Chair with the e-mail subject “AMS S-C 2024.”
